GoNOLA: The Happiest Happy Hour in New Orleans...
C’MON, GET HAPPY
1. Latitude 29 – Get on island time with the tiki drinks at this French Quarter bar and restaurant from famed bartender Jeff “Beachbum” Berry. The drink specials during happy hour switch out often, but you can expect big flavors featuring quality spirits, fresh exotic fruit juice, coconut milk, extracts, and spices. Also, their delicious crispy green beans with sesame oil and shoestring fries with kimchi ketchup are only $3. Happy hour is offered Saturday-Thursday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. and on Fridays from noon until 6 p.m.
2. . Bar Tonique – Rampart’s popular neighborhood watering hole is home to killer drinks at killer deals. Every Monday through Friday from noon until 5 p.m., you can enjoy $5 classic cocktails like the Pimm’s Cup, Sazerac, Moscow Mule, and Dark and Stormy. But if you’re on the clock during those hours, then perhaps the daily $5 drink special will suit your fancy, like whiskey flights on Tuesdays, Caipirinhas on (Thirsty) Thursdays, and the popular bacon bloody marys on Saturdays.
3. Broussard’s – Tucked on Conti Street in the French Quarter, Broussard’s is home to one of the prettiest courtyards and best happy hour deals in town. Enjoy $5 food items like beef brochette, fondue French fries, and Cuban sliders with orange-chile glaze every day from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and a 95-cent daily punch special. And for a major “wow” factor (have your phone ready), try the traditional absinthe service with ten varieties to choose from, offered from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. for $7 and under.
4. Araña — Spanish for “spider,” this uptown eatery specializes in Yucatecan cuisine and an impressive offering of tequilas. From 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, help yourself to more a dozen different half-priced tacos, like carne asada, chipotle shrimp, and ancho-braised duck. Been yearning to try that Don Julio 1942? Go right ahead, because the entire bar is half-price, too.
5. Superior Seafood — The seafood and the happy hour are superior at this St. Charles Avenue restaurant. Every day from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Superior serves up 50-cent oysters, two-for-one frozen mojitos, half-off house wine, and $3 draft beer. Their signature pomegranate frozen mojito pairs the storied fruit with fresh mint, lime, and a healthy pour of rum — it tastes delicious with the restaurant’s fresh oysters (but really, what doesn’t?).
