this bed would be perfect for my cabin!

The LIzzie Borden Bed & Breakfast.

the busiest time of the year is actually early August when the bed and breakfast hosts a reenactment of the crime. Distant cousins of the Bordens are on hand to assist the cast of 20 people, some of whom are very dedicated guests. A Victorian-style couch now stands in the spot where Mr. Borden was killed while he napped. visitors are given the opportunity to do a photo shoot, imitating the dead man’s position with someone else playing Lizzie, wielding an ax above him. On the piano is a portrait of Lizzie, and replica skulls of the Bordens are displayed in the dining room. Greeting incoming guests are pictures of the corpses at the crime scene and the rumored murder weapon. There are eight rooms available, including Lizzie’s, but the most popular is the one where Mrs. Borden was found dead between the bed and dresser. On TripAdvisor: One woman describes spotting a Victorian-dressed figure in a mirror, others felt something sitting on their beds, and reports of items in the room mysteriously falling during the night. Some guests were disappointed they didn’t have any ghostly interactions. After a decade Wilber is chock-full of stories of hauntings and paranormal sightings. the strange hauntings don’t scare her—but they have gotten so severe on two occasions that she slept outside in her car. “You get used to it,” she says. While she was never a non-believer, her conviction about the afterlife has solidified with each year she spends at Lizzie Borden’s home—a place that has surely persuaded dubious guests. Did Wilber believe in ghosts before? “Not like this,” she says.

CREAM CHEESE STUFFED CARROT CAKE WITH ORANGE GLAZE

PREP TIME 20 mins COOK TIME 80 mins
TOTAL TIME 1 hour 40 mins
Author: Jen@CarlsbadCravings.com
Serves: 12-14
INGREDIENTS
2 1/2 cups peeled and grated carrots*
Dry Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1 cup pecans, finely chopped (I use my food processor)
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet ingredients
4 large eggs
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt (full fat)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons orange extract
Cream Cheese Filling
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
Orange Cream Cheese Glaze
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 tablespoons orange juice
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon orange extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
Optional Decorative Garnishes
roasted pecans, roughly chopped
orange zest
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350F degrees. Butter and flour a 10” bundt cake pan (or use nonstick-spray with flour in it). Set aside.**
To make the Cream Cheese Filling, beat the cream cheese and sugar until light and creamy. Beat in remaining Filling Ingredients until smooth. Set Aside.
In a large bowl, mix all of the Dry Ingredients together. In a separate bowl, gently whisk eggs then stir in remaining Wet Ingredients just until combined. Don't overmix.
Stir Wet Ingredients into Dry Ingredients just until moistened, then stir in carrots until evenly combined (I use my clean hands to stir in the carrots).
Spoon 3 cups batter into prepared bundt cake pan. Spoon Cream Cheese Filling over batter and gently smooth, but do not touch the sides of the pan. Top with remaining batter.
Bake at 350F degrees for 45 minutes, cover with foil then reduce heat to 325 and bake an additional 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
To make the Orange Cream Cheese Glaze, using an electric mixer, cream together all of the Glaze ingredients EXCEPT the powdered sugar on medium speed for 1-2 minutes or until completely smooth. Add sifted powdered sugar and beat until very smooth, scraping down sides as needed. Place the frosting in the refrigerator for 5 to 10 minutes before using.
When cake has cooled, drizzle Glaze over cake or individual servings, whisking in additional orange juice/milk if Glaze has become too thick upon standing.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
NOTES
*To easily shred carrots, use the grater on your food processor. If you don't have the grater blade, you can also finely chop in your food processor.
**When "flouring" my pan, I use cocoa powder instead of flour because the cake is brown.

BLANCHE BARROW Picture1Though Bonnie and Clyde received most of the media attention during their crime spree, Blanche Barrow played a major role in the gang’s operations. Blanche became Clyde Barrow’s sister-in-law when she married his brother, Buck Barrow, who was heavily involved with Bonnie and Clyde’s crimes. Blanche is said to have never wanted to live a life of crime, and she even convinced her husband to return to prison voluntarily after he escaped in 1930. Blanche was proud of Buck for finishing his prison sentence, but she was disappointed when he fell right back into a life of crime shortly after his release. In 1933 the gang was involved in a shoot-out. Despite objecting to his life of crime, Blanche helped Clyde drag her husband back into the car after he was shot in the head by police. Buck barely survived, and Blanche sustained severe injuries to her eyes when police shot at the car, shattering the windows. Soon after, another shootout led to the arrest of Blanche and Buck. For remaining faithful to Buck, Blanche served six years in prison and suffered permanent visual impairment. Buck passed away in the hospital before he could be sentenced. After her release, Blanche remarried and lived the rest of her life in peace.

she as a beautiful woman!

THE BANKS THEY HAD ROBBED or reputed to have robbed

FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS Robbed March 1932
In March of 1932, Clyde, Ralph Fults and Raymond Hamilton robbed the First National Bank at 746 Massachusetts Street. Below is the view from the window at the Hotel Eldridge where bandits were staying while casing out the turf. The bank could be seen from their window. The bank building is now a fancy restaurant named "Teller's", complete with the original walk-in vault that serves as the entrance to the restaurant's bathrooms. How cool is that!?
FIRST STATE BANK - CEDAR HILL, TEXAS Robbed October 8, 1932 Raymond Hamilton equipped with a gun and a freshly stolen car, walked into this bank on October 8, 1932 and left with $1,400, and again on November 25th the following month. This time, he hit them up for $1,800 with the help of Les Stewart.
R.P. HENRY & SONS BANK LANCASTER, TEXAS February 27, 1934 On February 27, 1934, while Bonnie Parker waited in the getaway car, Clyde and Raymond Hamilton walked into this Lancaster Texas bank and walked out with over $6,000, after forcing L.L. Henry and several customers to lie on the cold tile floor.
HOME BANK OF GRAPEVINE TEXAS Robbed January 6, 1933 Robbed by Barrow associates Odell Chambliss and Les Stewart, the Home Bank was founded in 1900 by local banker R.E. Morrow. The bank had closed it's doors in 1933. An investigation into this robbery had led police to the home of Raymond Hamilton's sister, Lillie McBride. This resulted in the killing of Malcolm Davis by Clyde Barrow, who showed up at the McBride home.
FIRST STATE BANK OF OKABENA, MINNESOTA Who really robbed this bank? In an effort to modernize, a new facade was placed over the original structure
Many books and online sources have attributed the May 19, 1933 robbery of this bank to the Barrow gang. Two men and two women secreting themselves in the bank and robbing it with submachine guns were shortly after identified as being Tony Strain 32 and his wife Mildred, his brother Floyd Strain 28 and Alice "Stormy" Martin 25 all of whom were tried and convicted of the crime. Tony Strain sentenced to 80 years and his wife Mildred sentenced to 40 years. Question is, did the Strain gang take the fall for a Barrow gang job? Tony Strain and companions were all positively identified by the victims in a line up In Cumie's unpublished memoirs she claimed to have seen all the silver dollars from the Okabena bank heist. Could these silver dollars Clyde had brought home have been the ones he had gotten from the Lucerne bank on May 12th? Clyde Wanted Report in connection of the Lucerne, Ind. bank heist
FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF REMBRANDT, IOWA Robbed January 23, 1934
NATIONAL BANK OF POTEAU, OKLAHOMA Robbed January 26, 1934
FIRST NATIONAL BANK - STUART, IOWA Robbed by Barrow & Co. on April 16, 1934
While Bonnie waited in the car, Clyde and Henry Methvin walked into the white building on the left, which was a Drug Store in 1934 and bought themselves a Coca~Cola. They then walked a short distance to the bank, robbed it and locked everybody in the vault before leaving.
COMMERCIAL BANK - ARKANSAS This view is from the sidewalk in front of the building looking northeast toward the old Commercial Bank building- The one with the single green pillar in front. You will notice a small space between it and the next building to the right. This is the alley down which Marshall Humphrey was lured and captured.
PONDER STATE BANK TEXAS The bank is now home to the Ponder Boot Company. Scenes from the Warner Bros. movie were filmed here. The movie showed Bonnie and Clyde as attempting to rob this bank. It was actually Raymond Hamilton who had attempted to rob this bank, and found that it had failed a week earlier. Hamilton was mad at the time, but later, in telling the story to Clyde, they both had a big laugh over it.

Gibsland, Louisiana The outlaws of the 1930s with the most star power were Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, the rogue Romeo and Juliet of Depression America. After a brief career of robbing gas stations, stealing cars, and killing policemen, they were slaughtered by a posse of angry sheriffs south of Gibsland, Louisiana. L.J. "Boots" Hinton is the son of one of those vengeful lawmen, and he has grown up to become the manager and public face of Gibsland's Bonnie and Clyde Ambush Museum. "We didn't want it jumping out and grabbing people. We wanted it inviting people," says Boots, describing the museum's fairly low-key storefront that features a large "ambush" sign riddled with cartoon bullet holes. Opened in 2005, the museum is the centerpiece of this tiny town, housed in a building that used to be Ma Canfield's Cafe, the last place on earth visited by Bonnie and Clyde. "They got two sandwiches to go, went down the road eight miles, and got killed," said Boots. According to one account, Bonnie died holding her half-eaten breakfast. - See more at: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/10864#sthash.ZuJHXxU5.dpuf
Boots told us that the museum attracts a lot of families, but he warns parents at the cash register, "now one of y'all be sure and walk through in front of the kids." That's because the museum displays gruesome photos of Bonnie and Clyde after they were riddled with 130 rounds of ammo that were fired into their car. "Of course," Boots concedes, "most kids nowadays, with what they see on TV, it doesn't bother them." And his caution does seem irrelevant, as he openly sells copies of the same photos in the gift shop, next to the t-shirts. - See more at: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/10864#sthash.ZuJHXxU5.dpuf
Highlights of the Ambush Museum include one of Clyde's Remington shotguns, pulled from the death car; a Browning semi-automatic rifle similar to the one used by the Barrow gang; a tire that Clyde stole and gave to an old man (who refused to use it but who kept it as a souvenir); Bonnie's red hat; some glass from the death car windshield; and replicas of Bonnie and Clyde's tombstones, set in a simulated graveyard. A large mural fills one wall, faithfully recreating the moment of the ambush. What Boots calls a "Replicar" -- a black 1934 V-8 Ford with fake bullet holes -- acts as a stand-in for the Museum's former automotive exhibit: the bullet-ridden car from the 1967 Bonnie and Clyde movie. It had been displayed in the Wax Museum of the Southwest in Grand Prairie, Texas, until that place burned down, and was here until 2008, when it was moved to the Crime Museum in Washington, DC. - See more at: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/10864#sthash.ZuJHXxU5.dpuf
to add to the confusion, the real death car, along with Clyde's death shirt, are displayed in a casino in Nevada. These genuine bloody artifacts are beyond the budget of the Bonnie & Clyde Ambush Museum: the shirt alone was purchased for $75,000. Eight miles south of the Ambush Museum, on an isolated stretch of highway, is the small stone monument that marks the death site of Bonnie and Clyde. It was erected in 1972, and over the years it has been covered with graffiti, gouged with axes, and blasted with gunfire to the point where its inscription is barely legible (It has even been yanked out of the ground a few times). The many hearts and intertwined initials scrawled on the monument suggest that young couples make pilgrimages here, digging the Bonnie and Clyde outlaw vibe. - - See more at: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/10864#sthash.ZuJHXxU5.dpuf
The romantic vandalism somehow seems appropriate. Bonnie and Clyde would have defaced monuments too. - See more at: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/10864#sthash.ZuJHXxU5.dpuf
