Junky Funky Rusty & Re-purposed by Sue

We probably all have our Christmas decorations still up. How about some pics from people of the strange, quirky ornaments or decor that the family has made that still is included in the decorations out of sentiment. My dad, who is now 90, made this years ago and my adult children still expect it to adorn our tree.

Coral Castle, Homestead Florida

Centralia, Pennsylvania

Centralia is a borough and a near ghost town in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, United States. Its population has dwindled from over 1,000 residents in 1981 to 10 in 2010,[2] as a result of a mine fire burning beneath the borough since 1962. Centralia is the least-populated municipality in Pennsylvania. Centralia is part of the Bloomsburg-Berwick micropolitan area. The borough is completely surrounded by Conyngham Township. All properties in the borough were claimed under eminent domain by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1992 (and all buildings therein were condemned), and Centralia's ZIP code was revoked by the Postal Service in 2002.[3] State and local officials reached an agreement with the seven remaining residents on October 29, 2013 allowing them to live out their lives there, after which the rights of their properties will be taken through eminent

this creative woman spent YEARS collecting the perfect antique lids for her project. wow!

Step two: Choose a window Becky says, “I started with a window that I already had. I painted it pink and reinforced the corners with metal “L”brackets. I then placed all the clear glass lids, bowls and plates in a pleasing pattern Once I knew where I wanted then to go I glued them all to the window, starting at the top edge. I used Dap auto and marine silicone which stays very clear and makes a very strong bond.
Step three: Arrange and glue I glued the flat inside piece of all the glass to the back of the window. The different heights of the glass pieces stick out the back side of the window, and the part inside to you is the smooth glass. I have always adored old glass pieces with their artistic designs. This way I can just sit and study each piece for its own artistic features.
Step four: Adjust and enjoy! I left all the pieces intact except for the butter dishes close to the top. They were each too long for the space I had for them, so I cut about an inch off the end of each one with a wet tile saw. If folks don’t have a saw they might have to ask a tile layer if they could cut the pieces for them, but most windows I have seen are made with no cut pieces. I was just determined I was going to get some of those glass designs into my piece. I also used the piece I cut off of one of the dishes for the two upper corner pieces. It was a very simple process to do. If you use a window that is free hanging, I’m sure which side of the window you would want the back side of the dishes on. This window really looks pretty from either side.”

I could do this.....right???????

Great idea! Turn glass bottles into drinking glasses. Here's what you do:
1. Soak a piece of sting in alcohol
2. Wrap sting around bottle at the desired height and tie
3. Light string on fire and allow to burn for bit
4. Dip bottle in cold water
5. Firmly tap bottle against stiff surface
6. Bottle should break at level of string
7. Sand sharp edges with a light duty sandpaper

grandma's cocoa pie....

not my grandma's, mind you, but my cousin Shelia posted it, so it's practically a family recipe!
Here is a great old hard to find recipe~
Granny’s Cocoa Cream Pie
It’s simple and tasty.
This really was a simple desert often used during the 30’s and 40’s.
½ c. cocoa
¼ cup cornstarch/or arrowroot powder (or ½ c. all purpose flour)
3 egg yolks
1 ½ c. sugar
¼ tsp. salt
2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix cocoa, cornstarch, beaten egg yolks; sugar and salt, then add milk gradually, while stirring in a pot over med-high heat. Cook until thick, beating it smooth. Cream pies take some time to thicken, so stir... and stir (10-15 min). Using a heavy bottom pan really helps. Just keep it up until it thickens. Pour into a pre-baked pie shell. Put in the fridge to chill, add whipped cream if you like :0 Or use the left over egg whites for a meringue topping!

Fouke, Arkansas!

The city of Fouke, Arkansas, is a sleepy farming community that gained its popularity in the 1970's as the home of a Bigfoot-like beast known as "The Fouke Monster". To find Fouke, simply take US-71 southwest out of Texarkana for approximately 15 miles. The beast was first sighted in 1971 on the edge of a soybean field. After that, sightings seemed to explode throughout the small town. A carload of Texarkana residents witnessed the monster dashing in front of their car on U.S. 71. A deer hunter encountered the creature in heavy brush. Still another man reported that the monster was banging on the door of their house, trying to get in. The latest sighting of the monster was on July 17 in 1998, when a family saw the monster walking along a dry creek bed about five miles south of town. Sightings of the monster have occurred since the 1940's according to newspaper articles. A member of the band "Brave Combo" said, “I think I saw a Bigfoot once. It was on a small lonely highway between Texarkana and Shreveport. In that area they call it the Fouke Monster, named after Fouke, a swampy little town in southwest Arkansas. I was with my cousin, driving her Volkswagen Beetle. We were wide awake and there it was, walking swiftly along the road." Today there are only a few remnants of the monster in Fouke. The Monster Mart sells several items such as photos and other souvenirs. It's worth a stop inside to fill up with gas, grab a snack and a postcard, and talk to the people about the latest sightings. Just down the road from the Monster Mart is a large metal replica of the Fouke Monster that is set up for tourists. You climb a set of steps, put your head through the opening, and viola'! You have just become the latest Fouke Monster sighting!

Pull-Apart Cinnamon Sugar Pumpkin Bread with Buttered Rum Glaze

Ingredients
Bread
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
1/2 cup milk
2 1/4 teaspoons (1 envelope) active dry yeast
3/4 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 cup white sugar
1 tsp salt
2 1/2 cups bread flour
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp fresh ground nutmeg
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
Buttered Rum Glaze
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
1/8 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp milk
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 Tbsp rum
Instructions Directions
In a saucepan over medium-high heat, brown 2 tablespoons of butter, letting it bubble up and turn a dark golden brown but being careful not to allow it burn (turn black). Once browned, remove the pan from the heat and carefully add the milk, return to stove and heat through.**** Pour the milk and butter into the bowl of standing mixer (fitted with a dough hook) and allow to cool so it is no longer hot but also not cool (about 100-110 degrees F). Once it has reached a warm but not hot temperature add the yeast and 1/4 cup of sugar and allow to proof (this can take up to 8 minutes, the top will look foamy and the liquid cloudy). Then add the the pumpkin, salt, and 1 cup of flour. Stir until combined then add the rest of the flour 1/2 cup at a time and knead for 6 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic and just slightly sticky. If the dough is too moist, add extra flour 1 tablespoon at a time. Move dough to a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a clean towel. Allow to rise in a warm place for 60-90 minutes or until doubled in size. While dough is rising, brown another 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and mix well.** Making sure sugar evenly absorbs the butter. Set aside. Next, grease and flour a 9×5 loaf pan and set aside. When the dough has doubled in size, punch it down and flip out onto a clean floured surface and knead with hands for 1-2 minutes. Roll dough into a 20×12 inch rectangle.*** Evenly sprinkle the dough with the cinnamon sugar mixture and press into dough with palms of the hand. Cut the rectangle into 6 strips. Lay strips on top of each other and cut each strip into 6 even squares (cut in half then each half into thirds). Stack strips vertically into the loaf pan. Cover the pan with a clean towel and let rise for 30-45 minutes. In the meantime preheat an oven to 350 degrees. After rising in the pan bake for 30-40 minutes or until top is a very deep golden brown. To prepare the glaze, heat the butter, milk, and brown sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to boil then immediately remove the pan from the heat and stir in the rum and powdered sugar. By sunnysideupsd.com
